The Government provides funding to each school to improve the quality of sport and PE for children in primary schools.  This funding is ring-fenced and, therefore, can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Brookside Primary, we are committed to ensuring appropriate and relevant PE & sport provision for all of our children. This is evident through the range of sports and activities that we offer in PE, through extra-curricular clubs, intra- and inter-school competitions. We utilise specialist staff  in delivering high quality provision, alongside CPD. We recognise the importance of PE on the health and well-being of our children and the impact the PE curriculum and extra-curricular activities can have on the attitudes, confidence and achievement of all of our children.

Brookside Primary School uses the Sports Premium in the following ways:

  • improve the engagement of all children in regular physical activity (working towards the 60mins/day recommendation)
  • raise the profile of PE and sport in the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  • increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of staff in teaching PE and sport
  • ensure a broad range of sports and activities are offered to all pupils
  • increase participation in competitive sport (inter and intra-school)
  • identify, support and engage all children, including those identified as the least active, in sport and physical activities
  • improve resources to support the development of the subject
  • invest in Rushcliffe wide school sports leadership to enhance access to competitions, festivals and coaching expertise

Impact of the Sports Premium

Registers confirm that all pupil premium children, SEN children and children within EYFS, KS1 & KS2 take part in a range of broad and balanced PE lessons and much extra-curricular sporting activity. All pupils received specialist teaching from external providers in a range of sports, including gymnastics, dance and basketball. Teaching staff have worked alongside these specialists throughout the year helping to enhance their own subject knowledge and provide CPD.

All KS2 children are offered the opportunity to take part in a range of inter-school sport competitions and festivals across each school year. Our broad curriculum offer includes: Swimming, Forest Schools, Drumba, Ultimate frisbee, Bike Ability, ice skating and a visit to the Robinwood outdoor adventure centre for Y6 pupils.
