We are looking forward to welcoming all our new children and families into our Foundation classes in September.

We have two Foundation classes who share the same large space. We currently have 45 children divided between the two classes. We have four members of staff; Mrs Clark and Miss Fox are the class teachers and Mrs Evans and Mrs Wood support both classes. Have a look at our ‘All About Me’ pictures to find out about us!

All information about starting school will be shared with you directly when you are offered a place at Brookside.

In the meantime if you have any questions please do email the school office or the unit directly on:

This is one of our smaller carpet areas. There is an interactive whiteboard at the front and plenty of space for each child. We use our carpet areas for adult input sessions, stories, circle times, as well as space for the children to build, explore and play. We currently have a growing shopping list we are working our way through to provide additional resources for our larger classes next year, including some bigger rugs!

We have maths learning materials throughout the unit, but we also have a maths area where children have independent access to a variety of maths resources. Everything is labelled, to support the children when tidying away. The children are encouraged to say the rhyme ‘choose it, use it, put it away’, and follow its mantra!

Our making area encourages the children to be creative. They have independent access to boxes, a variety of paper, fastenings and decorative items, which they can use to develop their own creations. We encourage the children to store models and pictures on the shelf and return to them later to add to and improve. Children are also supported in labelling their creations with their name, so any help you can give at home in learning to write their name would be very beneficial. See our ‘Help at Home’ section further down for support in pencil grip and letter formation.

Our toilets are child friendly and colourful!

Our sink is the perfect height for washing hands!

Access to our foundation unit is through one of two doors, clearly labelled with our Rising Rockets and Shooting Stars signs.
