School Council
Our School Council is a group of children elected from Y2 to Y6. They meet on a regular basis to discuss their peers' ideas. (Children ask their classmates for issues to be raised before each meeting.) This therefore enables all children to become partners in their own education, making a positive contribution to the school environment and ethos.
Brookside's School Council has proved to be a great success. The children's ideas have been considered and discussed, and where possible, realised. The play areas, water bottles, fruit at playtimes, better cloakrooms and play equipment were all ideas generated by the school council and then put into place.
Children's Voices
This is one of our recent initiatives to give every child at school the chance to have their say. Each term we take a topic which is important to the children and ask them to tell us about it. Every child matters so every child has a chance to voice their opinion.
Here are some of their ideas on 'The Learning Environment':
"I really like sitting next to my friends. I would like comfy chairs to sit on."
"I like watching the birds from our classroom window. I think we should have a class pet."
"I like our classroom displays. I'd like better games for wet playtimes."
"I love our interactive whiteboard. I wish we did ICT in the ICT room more often."
