School Governors
What does it mean to be a Governor?
Briefly the role involves being part of a friendly, efficient team who actively support and challenge the school working alongside Mr Kenny as a critical friend. Much of the work of the Governing Body goes unseen, but we play a key role in helping Brookside provide the best education for our pupils.
The Governing Body takes an active role in the strategic development of the school. Typically a Governor will attend at least two meetings per term, the full Governing Body meeting on one evening and the meetings of the sub committees on another. Each Governor is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the curriculum. As a link Governor, they will report on a particular subject area and will meet the member of staff responsible for this subject. The Governing Body are responsible for promoting high standards of educational achievement, managing the school budget, reporting results and performance, performance management, health and safety inspections and school policies.
The full Governing Body meeting deals with the big issues that face the school and usually the final consideration of any initiative or change before its implementation. There are three main committees that carry out most of the work of the Governing Body. The Finance & General Purposes Committee, Strategic Development Committee and finally Pupils and Personnel Committee. Individually these committees deal with their own nuts and bolts of the operational sides of the school and make recommendations to the full Governing Body.
If you have any questions regarding the Governing Body then we can be contacted through the school office by telephone (01509 820001) or email (office@brookside.notts.sch.uk).
