Our Foundation Unit
Our aim is to provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment where the children can learn effectively at their own pace. We provide the children with a variety of structured play activities and learning experiences. The children progress through the stepping stones to reach the early learning goals by the end of the foundation stage. There are six areas of learning:
- personal, social and emotional development;
- communication, language and literacy;
- mathematical development;
- knowledge and understanding of the world;
- physical development;
- creative development.
At Brookside, we follow the Jolly Phonics scheme. This teaches children the sounds needed for reading, writing and spelling. If you have Microsoft PowerPoint, you can click below to listen to the 44 different phonemes (sounds) we teach at school.
