Cycle Training is a scheme organised for children in Year 6. It provides children with some basic skills for riding their bikes and an awareness of road safety. The course lasts for several weeks with an assessment at the end. The successful children then receive a certificate.
Children will learn about how to check their bike for safety, safe starting and stopping, control of the bicycle, left and right turns, overtaking and use of traffic lights and associated signals. The Highway Code will be introduced through the use of 'Arrive Alive' - a Highway Code for young road users.
Cycling usually takes place in the summer term. Children in Year 6 will be asked if they want to participate and will then receive a letter, including the exact dates.
