About Us
Our school is situated in the centre of the popular village of East Leake, close to the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire borders. The school is set in extensive grounds with two playgrounds and a large playing field. There is also a wildlife area with a pond which supports environmental work throughout school and a school garden and vegetable plots, maintained by children and parent volunteers. The school consists of two buildings; the original village school (built in 1879) and a Clasp Construction block built in 1966.
In 2009, the Victorian school building was taken over by Sure Start as a Children's Centre. (Sure Start is the Government’s programme to deliver the best start in life for every child by bringing together early education, childcare, health and family support.) Parts of the building are still used by the school. It is also the location of the Active Minds childcare club.
As a school we fully support the aims and outcomes contained within the DFE document ‘Every Child Matters’. The five outcomes of Every Child Matters (ECM) are universal ambitions for every child, whatever their background or circumstances. These are the five outcomes:
• Be Healthy
• Stay Safe
• Enjoy and Achieve
• Make A Positive Contribution
• Achieve Economic Well-Being
The Every Child Matters outcomes underpin our core beliefs, our mission and our aims. The outcomes feature strongly within our School Improvement Plan and help us to determine the direction our school is taking in the future.
Our Brookside Code was updated by the children in November 2012...
We are kind, caring and helpful to everyone.
We celebrate everyone’s achievements.
We always try our best without giving up in everything we do.
We always tell the truth and show respect to everyone.
We look after our environment by keeping our school tidy and
taking care of our outside spaces.
We have fun and play sensibly on our playgrounds, taking care wherever we are.
Brookside School is committed to valuing diversity by providing equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children and families.
